JH Signature Collection
Only nature herself could have dreamt up the colours of J. Hunter Pearls, which emerge from black-lipped oysters in the rarest of hues ranging from cool greens and blues to warmer gold, copper, chocolate and champagne tones. Our pearls are indeed a testament to the pristine, natural environment of Northern Fiji, where the oysters that bear them are carefully nurtured in nutrient-rich waters, yielding only a small yet prized bounty each year. Naturally, our signature collection of fine jewelry puts the “Fiji” hued pearls – which are neither dyed nor colour-enhanced in any way – front and center. Our pieces are thoughtfully designed to showcase the singular beauty and uniqueness of each pearl. Each ring, earring, pendant and necklace is artfully matched by hand and the diamonds that we use are graded VS1 to SI 1, H, IJ in colour and clarity. The beauty of J. Hunter Fiji Pearls, which are unlike any other in the world, is more than skin deep, for they are produced in harmony with local communities and the natural environment.
Fiji Collection
CASUAL ELEGANCE The indelible beauty of Fiji is the inspiration behind our stunning new collection. The unparalleled hues that have made J. Hunter Pearls world famous take their cue from the country’s rich natural heritage, from the cool greens and blues that evoke the aquamarine waters in which our pearls are carefully grown to the warm champagne, copper and gold tones reminiscent of tropical sunsets. Our choice of materials for the new line is influenced by the traditional Fijian way of life where weaving with sun-dried leaves and marsh reed is still everyday practice. We’ve used organic leather and raw cord to string and bind our pearls. These natural materials get better with age, exuding rustic charm with every wear. The knotting and tying in each ring, bracelet and necklace hint at the inter-connectedness of life in Fiji, where many people still live in communal villages. At J. Hunter Pearls, we are proud of our work with rural communities, who carry out important components of pearl production and reap the rewards. Of course, we’d be amiss if we didn’t mention the gentle, unhurried pace of life in the islands. We wanted to convey this relaxed island vibe in the new…
Shell by J Hunter
Fijian Shell carvers Peter and Andreas Frey reside in the coastal township of Lami, near the Fijian capital Suva. The father and son duo are well known for their unique wearable art pieces made from shells and in particular the mother of pearl shell. Pacific flora and cultural symbols such as tattoo feature heavily in their work. Originally from Bavaria in Germany, Peter came to Fiji on a yacht in 1969 and decided to drop anchor for good. Influenced by the wood carvers in the Bavarian mountains, he first took to carving black coral and later moved to shells when its sale was banned. Son Andreas has followed in his footsteps, learning the ins and out of shell carving from a tender age. Together, the Freys work to capture the essence of the Pacific in their jewellery, making each piece with perfect precision by hand.
